Cape May is primarily known for its beautiful beaches and lovely homes and resorts. As one of the most popular beach towns in New Jersey, we attract people all the way from New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. We even get international travelers from Canada and Europe.
But if you are someone who is not as familiar with Cape May, you may wonder what makes it so special, and what else is there to do besides go to the beach? As a matter of fact, the list of attractions is huge.
The main landmark of Cape May is the lighthouse. Originally constructed in 1859 and recently restored, you can climb the 199 steps up to the top and see the most unique and breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean and its coastline. Often considered a “rite of visit to the Jersey Shore”, people have visited the lighthouse since it first opened, learning all of the uses of it, including providing a bright enough light to helps ships navigate.
Another popular attraction is the Naval Air Station Wildwood Museum. Opened in the midst of World War Two in 1943, this air stations served as a training facility for dive bombers. Now restored into a museum, visitors can learn all about these dive bombers, military history, and what New Jersey was like during World War Two. It is full of activities adults and young children can enjoy.
