The Montreal Beach Resort in Cape May, NJ celebrated its 50th year of service with elected officials, community members, resort staff and family members on May 11 at the hotel’s onsite, newly renovated restaurant, Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grille. The celebration also included an unveiling of newly renovated, deluxe look for the resort’s restaurant, and its panoramic patio bar.
Elected officials presented proclamations to the Hirsch family, owners of the Montreal Beach Resort since its opening, and stories, history and laughter were shared by the family and guests.
“It was a wonderful experience seeing so many people come out to help us celebrate our 50th anniversary – and cut the ribbon to a new season at our all-new Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grille,” said co-principal Larry Hirsch.
The celebration is just one way the resort is recognizing its Golden Anniversary. The family is planning special memorabilia and keepsakes, including a commemorative wine – “Chateau Montreal/Harry’s Reserve” – bottled exclusively for the 50th anniversary, and a coffee table book about the resort’s history titled, ‘A Cape May Story.’
Founded by Harry and Sophie Hirsch in 1966, the Montreal Beach Resort has been lovingly owned and maintained by three generations of the Hirsch Family, who’ve made countless improvements to the beloved vacation resort over five decades. The Montreal Beach Resort is a true Cape May resort. Unlike any typical seaside experience, the resort stays true to its core value of treating customers like family – maintaining the family-friendly atmosphere upon which it was built, while keeping its amenities modern and appealing. Today, the Montreal Beach Resort is one of only a handful of hotels along the entire Jersey Shore to remain under the continuous management of one family.
Updates to Harry’s Ocean Bar & Grill include a new indoor/outdoor bar area, with expanded seating for 30. The bar will now flow seamlessly from the inside to the outside patio – an exciting new feature for the Cape May restaurant scene. Guests will enjoy al fresco dining thanks to expansive NanaWall® windows on both sides of the restaurant. Harry’s is also unveiling an eye-catching exterior design to complement its stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean.
Additionally, new lighting, color schemes and flooring, along with eclectic décor highlighted by area artifacts and historical photos, infuse Harry’s warm and inviting atmosphere. Highlights include reclaimed Douglas fir tabletops, exposed Edison bulbs, rustic stained wood paneling, exposed brick, wood slat benches/banquets and more.
For those seeking a vibrant bar scene and entertainment, the upstairs deck/bar is once again hopping with the best views and live music in Cape May.
